Competition of Students in Microsystems Applications

About the project

COSIMA means: "Competition of Students in Microsystems Applications" – take the plunge into the world of microsystems!

Get an idea about COSIMA

COSIMA is organized by VDE, the Association of Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies, supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The VDE Association consists of about 35,000 members and about 1,000 employees, thus one of Europe’s major technologically and science-oriented non-profit associations.

Which are the COSIMA targets?

Microsystems are mostly composed of one or several sensors, actors and one electronic steering part.

This is our task for students and technically experienced persons:

  • Invent applications to improve and support the interaction between people and technology in various fields of the daily life!
  • Your creative talent is requested – all you need is to have a good idea and then realize it so that you can demonstrate us a functioning project prototype.

COSIMA’s project description allows room for creative ideas

In contrast to other competitions, COSIMA does not specify a tight and inflexible project description, targeting at creative, ingenious students: We are looking for young pioneers who are searching for project ideas on their own, who are able to put the idea later into praxis and who will finally present us a functioning prototype!

What is required:

  • Economic planning and public relations
  • Project implementation in the frame of a contest

How can you benefit from COSIMA?

We are going to invite the best 10 teams to present their projects at the electronica, Messe München, on November 11 - 13, 2020.
A cash prize will be awarded to the three winning teams.

That will benefit you all: In their projects, COSIMA participants demonstrate very specific talents and skills which certainly will increase their credit points for a later contact with industrial managers or representatives from universities.

The icing on the cake: COSIMA winners are automatically qualified for the international iCan Contest which will take place in Nanjing on June 26-28, 2020.
The iCan Contest is an international contest where the winning teams from the regional contests from all over the world take part. Participants from the last contests came from Europe, China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and the US.
